Pilot testing of WP3 in Spain

In February and March, second-grade students from Institut Bitàcola in Barberà del Vallès took part in “Making Movement Meaningful: The Urban Mile of Barberà.” The 35 students engaged in a learning experience that connected sport with STEM through the challenge of understanding and improving their performance in an urban mile.

Throughout the sessions, they analysed movement, running technique, balance, strength and recovery, collecting experimental data, creating and interpreting graphs, comparing results, and analysing videos of their own movements. Along the way, they explored concepts such as velocity, acceleration, forces, centre of mass, and breathing recovery.

Taking on roles as runners and coaches, students planned strategies, observed performance, and used evidence to guide their decisions. The activity also sparked debate and critical thinking about the role of technology in sport, including prosthetics and technological innovation.
